From a young age, Georgia needed to understand behaviour, hence she studied Psychology, (BSc Hons and a DOccPsych). Georgia’s quest to better understand herself and others did not stop there, culminating in a six year training in group and individual psychoanalytic psychotherapy at the IGA.
In 1991, Georgia started tutoring children in care who had been excluded from school. The seed was planted for Georgia to set up a children’s home as she felt that their emotional needs were often not being met.
In 1993, she started working with victims of torture seeking asylum which helped her better understand trauma and people’s responses to it. In 1999, she set up a children’s home and in 2007 transitioned to Supported Accommodation and is the Nominated Individual and Registered Service Manager.
From 2016-2022, Georgia worked as an honorary psychotherapist at a hospital one day a week with a high level of disturbance. Georgia was horrified by the lack of support for the team holding such difficult cases. Her belief about having a robust system around my team was reinforced. Staff need to be properly looked after and supported so that in turn, can do the same for the YP placed with us which, she hopes, they are achieving.Board Member
